This morning we are continuing our journey with the next chapter of my book, Chapter 14, Journey to a Better Land. I want to talk about disciplining our children and more importantly the way we discipline our children. I know when I was raising my children I had the hardest time with that. My boys were always getting into things and annoying me terribly, can anyone relate to that:) I have to say that I was not always calm with them.
I remember one incident in particular when I was living in the school bus and pregnant for my last baby. My 2 little ones were really getting on my nerves and at that time I was so sick with my pregnancy. Those 2 would go so far as mimicking me, having their own throw up bowl and trying to act like their Mom. Listening to them caused me to feel more sick then I was. Those 2 would think up the worse things to make Mom's life miserable. At this particular time I was in no mood for their antics.
Well needless to say, I started in on them. Screaming, yelling and smacking them any where I could whenever they walked by me. I was way too sick to get up and chase them and in a school bus there was not too much chasing room:). Nothing was working so I decided to try another method to calm us all down.
I had a little promise box that I always kept on hand for our worship times. We would each take turns reading a promise and turning it over to read the meaning. I decided it was time to sit down and each take a promise and read, hopefully keeping them quiet for a just a little while. Well, they each took their promise and was enjoying our time together, which I was very thankful for that. Then it was my turn and I will never forget what I read on my promise. I can't remember what the scripture was but I do remember what the back of the card, the meaning said. It hit me that hard. It said the angels were watching me while I was discipling my children and were weeping. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Wow! The thought of the angels watching me and the way I was handling my boys, screaming and yelling and slapping them really hit me hard. I will tell you I was much more aware of the way I disciplined my children from then on, knowing that I was not alone. It really gave me something to think about.
So remember when you are dealing with your children that you are not alone. God and the Angels are always present watching all that you are doing. When they seem to be out of control just get on your knees and pray for the calmness and the wisdom you will need to handle all situations and God will give you the peace and the way to deal with it. I guarantee that. Our scripture for today is found in Deuteronomy 6:7. It says
"You shall teach My words diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Teach your children every day about the love of God. Study the Bible with them every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed. May God be cherished in your home.
I pray that you all have the wisdom to deal with your children today, the way God would have you deal with them. God bless your day.
